2 FA Digital Security…..What is it and why is it important?

“Two Factor Authentication (or 2FA) is an extra layer of protection used to ensure the security of online accounts beyond just a username and password.” – Authy

How does it work?

It verifies your identity by using two out of three factors when you login. For example a password as well as a passcode sent to your mobile phone via sms or a using an authenticator app like Authy. Other examples that could be used are fingerprints, verifying emails or answering security questions.

Why is it important?

The are many hacking attempts every minute all over the world. Even the bigger companies with sophisticated tech systems can be hacked. Keep your personal data and online accounts (banking, social media, superannuation, online shopping, PayPal etc) safe.

How do I turn it on?

A lot of online accounts should have already asked you to follow a process to enable 2FA. If you are not sure – contact them direct and ask for instructions to switch it on. Start with your banking apps and email accounts!
