Forget You Not
Forget You Not poem written by Marie Fox (owner of Crafty Fox By Design) about Alzheimer’s disease and how important it is to take photos and remember the person as they were, not how the disease affects them.

Forget You Not
As the sun rises in the East, bringing a brand new day,
I wonder, will it be like yesterday?
With one moment turning into another, and before you know it –
The sun is setting in the West, displaying vibrant colours,
Before casting its shadows, this way and that.
It’s signalling day turning to night.
As the last light disappears, and the stars come out to shine,
Will you remember what happened today?
The antics, the laughter and the tears.
Or will it all be gone?
As though it never happened, like a slate being wiped clean,
Ready for the next adventure,
With no memory of battles won or lost.
I wonder, does it bother you that you don’t remember?
Or have you forgotten that too?
Please know that you have not been cut off, or placed in isolation,
And that funny little light that flashes,
Is helping us to capture the memories,
Before they fade away.
We understand that the time will come, and our faces will become a blur.
Our names will pass your lips, as though we are just strangers.
But we will still have our memories,
And photos to remind us,
That the person that you used to be,
Isn’t far away.
If only we could turn back time, to when you didn’t forget.
So we could enjoy a few more sunrises and sunsets.
When the time comes to say the final goodbye,
A hard day it will be.
But rest assured, that we will
Forget you not.
